Gopalpur, a natural port of Orissa, is one of the most ideally located and topographically suited deep sea ports on the East Coast of India. The Government of Orissa has awarded the mammoth task of developing Gopalpur to Sara International Limited (SIL) and Orissa Stevedores Limited. At the end of the development in 2010, the port would is planned to have a cargo handling capacity of 32 million metric tons, with berths capable of handling capesize vessels.
